We Created the Market

In 2000, Mike Strugar established the nation’s first market for transferring conservation tax Credits in Colorado. In 2003, he founded Virginia’s Conservation Credit Exchange and registered Virginia’s very first conservation tax Credit to be transferred. Through both his Colorado and Virginia programs he has facilitated the transfer of over 1000 Credits valued at nearly $100 million.

Greatest Expertise and Dedication to Land Conservation

Strugar Conservation Services is run by Mike Strugar, a land conservation attorney with 20 years experience in land conservation law and policy and nonprofit management.  Mike is a former partner in the law firm of Holme, Roberts, & Owen, and has been a regular adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver School of Law. Mike has and continues to work closely with the IRS and the Tax Departments in all three states that have adopted these types of credits, and thus has the most up-to-date information on developments that might affect an easement donation and the resulting credits.

In 2009 Mike formed an association in Virginia with Nancy M. Ambler, President of Wood Thrush Land Conservation, L.L.C.  Nancy is a virginia native and an attorney with more than 20 years experiance in providing administrative ledership and legal counsel (including work as an attorney for Virginia Outdoors Foundation).  As a long time preservationist and conservation leader in the Commonwealth, Nancy has keen knowledge and understanding of issues relating to local, regional and statewide conservation challenges and opportunities.
